Mary Rowell Obituary

God so Loved the World that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him won’t perish but will have eternal life. John 3:16 Evangelist Mary M Rowell was born on November 20,1930, in Scranton, South Carolina to the late Deacon Sampson and Sarah Dixon. She was the oldest of ten children. Mother Mary Rowell entered eternal rest on January 29,2024. She was a member of Gresham Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and fellowshipped with Tabernacle A.M.E Church. She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and as many of you know, she loved to serve the Lord. She became a Evangelist in 1976. She served in several capacities through the years such as the President of her group, which was The Shepherds of Joy. She attended church every Sunday morning and was at many different singing programs every Sunday evening. Her very favorite song she always loved to sing was, “If a Robin Can Say Thank You, You Can Do It Too.” On Labor Day of 1949, she married the love of her life Melton Rowell. Our family lost our family’s matriarch, she was 93 years old. Mary spent most of her life in Marion County, a community she was happy to call home. We were blessed to be touched by Mary’s love, nurturing spirt, and the imprint that she has left on our hearts. She had four children, whom three of her children preceded her in death, Geraldine Davis, Randolph Rowell Sr. and Pearline Rowell. Four sisters one preceded her in death, Martha Davis: four brothers who all have preceded her in death, Moses Dixon, Spencer Owens, Isaiah Dixon, and Isaac Dixon Sr. To continue her legacy, she leaves to cherish her fond and loving memories: her devoted husband Melton Rowell of 74 years: one daughter, Pamela Rowell of Marion, SC. One bonus daughter whom she also called her own Alma Sparks of Friendship, SC. One son-in-law, Furman Davis of Nichols, SC. Three sisters Emma Lee Simpson of Orangeburg, SC, Shirley Hughes and Mildred Paige all of Marion, SC. Two special sisters - in- law Bertha Dixon of Marion, SC and Mattie Dixon of Washington, DC. Fourteen grandchildren, Sixteen great-grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
